kristen's blog

Last weekly post :(

Hello everyone,

I find it incredible to believe that the semester is already over.  I have learned so much from this course that I'm not sure that I can condense it all into one blog post, but I'll do my best.  My view of social software has changed significantly since the beginning of this semester.  At the start of the semester I knew how to use facebook (minimally), but now I know how to use, and am not frightened by, all kinds of different web 2.0 social software applications.

Hi everyone,

Virtual Libraries?

Virtual worlds-a concept applied to library science?  Well, I think that is a really interesting idea.  I've never actually participated in online gaming let alone online gaming that involves virtual worlds, but I think that there is some potential with how we see the idea of creating a virtual world for learning processes could be used.  I think that it is truly creative how various professions have turned to the creation of virtual worlds to teach their 'students' how to interact with others in their professional setting and deal with specific problems.

Online Social Networks

Hi Everyone,

Folksonomy (simplicity) versus Taxonomy or Subject Headings (complexity)

This week's readings seemed to present a conflict in my mind, how can libraries continue to catalog materials using hierarchical subject headings and introduce folksonomies through tools such as Library Thing without sending mixed messages to users?  On one hand OPAC subject headings may be "exclusive" in their choice of words, but on the other hand folksonomy methods of describing materials (through tags) seem insufficiently descriptive.

A del.icio.us world of libraries, what a yummy idea!

Hello eveyone. This week I have been inspired by our readings to think what are libraries all about?

Wow good job wiki group!

Hello everyone,

Hi everyone,

Sorry that I didn't post last week and warn you that it was going to be my blogging holiday, I know realize that that is what I should have done.  I have a confession to make.  Blogging scares me.  I know that sounds weird, but I feel this huge pressure to say something profound because everyone can read what I have to say.  The fact is, I'm so new to social software that I don't think that I can be profound.  Anyway, just thought I'd put that out there...I need to stop getting so worked up about what I have to write each week.
