Hey everyone!
Week 8 is going to be my second blog holiday.  Hope everyone had a good week!

Folksonomies

If you find that I am type folkesonomies a lot, I apologize in advance -- it's tough when you're programmed from birth to add an extra letter into a word because it's your last name! I'll try to keep a grasp on it.

Folksonomy Holiday

Thanks for the chat last night...but I'm taking a blog holiday this week.

Hi Everyone,
I'm taking a blog holiday this week.
See you next week.

Week 8: Folksonomies

After the unit last week and our group project, I have a better understanding of what folksonomies are and how they are used. This week's case studies showed that tagging in library catalogues is the next big thing. I already sort of knew this because the University of Western Ontario and the University of Guelph both have new library catalogues in beta that have tagging features.

Look out Dewey, Folksonomies are coming

Holiday II - The Holidayinating

I'm probably going to regret this, but I'm going to use up my second blog holiday this week.

Folksonomy (simplicity) versus Taxonomy or Subject Headings (complexity)

This week's readings seemed to present a conflict in my mind, how can libraries continue to catalog materials using hierarchical subject headings and introduce folksonomies through tools such as Library Thing without sending mixed messages to users?  On one hand OPAC subject headings may be "exclusive" in their choice of words, but on the other hand folksonomy methods of describing materials (through tags) seem insufficiently descriptive.
